These are prices that skip companies publish, in euro, not quotes. Kollect is a national booking service and M50 Skip Hire and Cork Mini Skips are skip operators, so the figures are their own customer prices. Prices usually include VAT, delivery, collection and disposal; permits, mattresses and extra days can be added. Checked September 2026.

Council fees in five Irish cities
Household bins in Ireland are collected by private, permitted companies (see our guide to household bins in the Republic of Ireland), but councils still run recycling centres, license skips on public roads and, in some cities, collect bulky items. We read each council’s pages in September 2026.
| City | Bulky items from homes | Recycling centre | Skip on a public road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dublin | Dublin City Council: €50 for up to 5 items | Ringsend and North Strand: car €21, SUV €28, van €95 | €27 a day per 5 metres where parking is restricted; pay-and-display €12.70 to €50 a day |
| Cork | No council collection listed; free mattress drop-off days in August 2026 | Tramore Valley Park: €4 entry; mattress €15 to €20; sofa up to €25 | City Centre Island licence via the skip operator; €110 application fee |
| Limerick | Council points to permitted collectors | Mungret, Kilmallock, Newcastle West: car €8; double mattress €24 | Licence applied for in writing to the Council; fee not published online |
| Galway | Galway City Council every Tuesday, €7.50 to €52.50 an item | Liosbán: free for city residents (no general waste or rubble) | €10 a day per 5 metres; €26 a day in a pay-and-display bay |
| Waterford | No council household collection | Kilbarry: car load of general waste €24; mattress €20 to €25 | Operators need a Skip Operator Licence, €300 a year |

Why quotes differ
- Size and weight. Skip firms price by size but pay to dispose of waste by the tonne. The State landfill levy is €85 a tonne and a €10 a tonne recovery levy applies to waste sent for recovery such as waste-to-energy, according to the Government; heavy loads of soil, rubble or tiles cost more to get rid of, and small skips often refuse them. See soil and rubble removal.
- Zone and distance. Cork Mini Skips charges up to €85 more for the same skip in its outer zones than in zone 1.
- Permits. A skip on a restricted street or in a paid bay carries a council fee; on your own drive it does not.
- Problem items. Mattresses, electricals, paint, gas cylinders, tyres, plasterboard and asbestos are refused or charged separately. Electricals are free at council recycling centres.
- Hire period. Some small skips are limited to a few days; extensions cost extra.
Whoever you use needs a waste collection permit from the NWCPO. Our guide to checking a collector on the NWCPO permit search explains how to check one, and our checklist on comparing waste removal quotes covers what to ask.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a skip cost in Ireland?
Published prices run from about €185 for a 2.5-yard mini skip to €610 for a 14-yard skip, usually including VAT, delivery, collection and disposal. A 6 to 8-yard builders skip is €387 to €477 on Kollect’s Dublin rates.
Is the council cheaper for getting rid of furniture?
Often. Galway City Council collects a couch for €18, Dublin City Council collects up to five items for €50, and council recycling centres charge from €4 to €24 for a car load in the cities we checked.
Do I need a permit for a skip?
Only if it goes on a public road or footpath. Councils charge per day, from €10 per 5 metres in Galway to €27 in Dublin City where parking is restricted, and some require the skip operator to apply.
Why is soil and rubble so expensive to dispose of?
Disposal is paid by weight and a cubic yard of rubble is heavy. The €85 a tonne landfill levy and gate fees make dense loads cost more, and small skips often refuse them.
What is the fine for illegal dumping?
The on-the-spot litter fine is €250 from 1 September 2026, with up to €3,000 on conviction in the District Court. The owner of dumped waste can be prosecuted if it is traced to them.
